A commercial airline passenger allegedly tried to bite a flight attendant this week before jumping out of the plane.
A federal complaint alleged Thursday that Tun Lon Sein tried to bite the American Airlines employee on the hand in order to get to the plane's service door.
The flight had pushed off from the gate at Charlotte Douglas International Airport prior to a flight to New Bern, N.C., when the alleged incident occurred.
"Sein spoke little or no English during these events," a criminal complaint reads. "However, circumstances surrounding his actions show that Sein understood the directions of the [flight attendant], as well as the safety requirements of commercial air travel."
Sein is accused of first trying to open the main cabin door.
When officials say two passengers and a flight attendant tried to grab him, Sein is accused of opening the galley service door and jumping to the tarmac.
According to the airline, law enforcement was called to the scene and Sein was apprehended and, according to WSOC, escorted back to the Charlotte terminal and taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, officials had to force everyone off the plane, which returned to the gate. All passengers were re-screened before they could re-board and finally make the 55-minute flight to New Bern.
If convicted of interfering with flight crew members, officials say Sein could be sentenced to 20 years in prison.
